Went to chateau Vincennes today with my art class. The place was a medieval fortification for the kings of France. It was a place they could go to get away from the city (for fun, raise the kids away from diseases, etc.) After Louis XIV built Versailles and he and the French court made that their center of operations, chateau Vincennes went through several stages from being a prison that held elite prisoners (such as the Marquis de Sade, King Henry IV and Diderot) to being a factory and now home of the French army's archives.
